Microsoft Word 2016 Replace Section Break Continuous Notation With a Section Break Next Page
Hi so_rockstar,
Thank you for posting your question in this community. Based on your reproduce steps above, I also noticed the similar behavior as yours, which the copied texts with continuous section break will be replaced by next page section break.
The problem should be caused by the section start type in Page Setup settings of the new document based on my test. You can go to Layout tab > open Page setup dialog (click launch button in the lower right corner of the Page Setup section) > change Section Start from New page to continuous, and see the results.
Best regards,
Dihao

The problem should be caused by the section start type in Page Setup settings of the new document based on my test.
The problem isn't caused by the setting in Page Setup. The dialog merely reflects the current setting, which, as you explain, can be changed back to Continuous. But that doesn't explain why the start type changed in the first place.

Hi Suzanne,
Thank you for pointing that out. When I was doing the test which I copied and pasted the texts with continues section break to a new created document based on NORMAL template with Page setup "New page", the Continuous section break will be changed to next page section break.
If I change the default Page setup setting to "Continuous", the new document based on NORMAL template will be pasted the text with section break as Section break continues. Hence, based on my test I assume that the problem could be related to the default settings in Page Setup in this scenario.
At meantime, if you have other ideas or other suggestions, please feel free to share them here, I believe it can also benefit and educate other members as well as myself. Thank you.
Best regards,
Dihao

I see now what you are saying. I checked in new blank documents in two versions of Word (2003 and 2013), and in fact the section start in a single-section document is set to "New page." So this might very well be the cause of the problem. That's really inconsistent because, in the case of page numbering, the default setting is "Continue from previous section" (even when there is no previous section), so I would expect the same "continuous" default in section starts. This time you have taught me something!
